If you love food, Borough Market might just become your favourite place in London. A trip there means rubbing shoulders with chefs, restaurateurs, fellow foodies, and passionate traders. You will find local produce, British produce, and food from around the world. All of it is of exceptional quality.
The market is actually London’s oldest fruit and vegetable market. Food markets in the area can be traced back to the 11th century, while trading has taken place on the current site of Borough Market since 1756.
Over time the market has grown and diversified, but it remains true to the core principles of consistently maintaining high standards of quality. Today there are over 100 traders at the market and each of them is passionate about the food they sell.
You will find delicious baked goods and confectionery as well as preserves and condiments. There is charcuterie like salami, pate, and terrines, plus a vast range of cheeses and other dairy products, as well as fruit, vegetables, and spices. You can also get fish, seafood, meat, poultry, and game to make your favourite dishes, or try out new recipes.
Drinks from all over the world are available too, and there are a number of cafes, bars, and restaurants.
Describing the food and other produce that you will find at Borough Market doesn’t fully do it justice, however. It is a community, an experience, and a feast for all your senses. It is a place where you can learn about new ingredients, pick up new recipe ideas, get cooking tips, have a leisurely lunch, or simply wander through while soaking up the atmosphere and passion for good quality food.
Borough Market is located on Southwark Street in London, so it is very easy to get to. If you are travelling by Tube you should get off at London Bridge station.

You don’t have to be a chef or know much about food to enjoy Borough Market. A love of good quality food, however, will help.
